Upcoming NNF webinar and NNF Master's Thesis Prize

02. 04

The NNF is pleased to announce the resumption of the NNF thesis prize competition and an upcoming webinar on the subject of Magnetic Field based navigation to be held on the 22nd of May.

First, some information on the Webinar:

Title: Indoor Localization Using Magnetic Field-Aided Inertial Navigation Systems -- A model-based approach

Name of the speaker: Chuan Huang

Abstract: Indoor localization technology, which enables precise positioning in indoor environments, has attracted significant research interest. One promising approach is magnetic field-based localization, which leverages spatial variations in indoor magnetic fields to determine position. A magnetic field odometry and a SLAM system using a low-cost sensor array will be presented. The proposed magnetic field odometry reduces the position drift of an inertial navigation system by two orders of magnitude, while the magnetic field SLAM system effectively constrains drift over long durations.

Second, notes about the thesis prize:

The Nordic Institute of Navigation awards a prize for the best master thesis in the area of navigation and positioning to a student (or students working together) who has been enrolled in a master programme at a university in the Nordic countries and who during 2023 or 2024 has completed a thesis project of high quality in a topic relevant to the NNF. The prize will be 5000 Norwegian Kroner with a submission deadline of 30th April 2025.

Please see the attached NNF thesis prize call pdf for more information.
