Title: Robust Localization in Underground Mine Environments
Abstract:
An underground mine is a harsh, dirty and constantly changing environment, without GNSS access. Large areas with few vehicles favor onboard positioning solutions over preinstalled infrastructure solutions. One of the most promising techniques for creating onboard positioning solutions is lidar sensors in conjugate with inertial sensor. This talk presents ways to efficiently utilize information contained in lidar sensor data in the underground setting, and specifically how extracting features from the raw data can increase robustness and flexibility of a localization system with respect to the non-static environment.
